Ideal for: Beginners and intermediates. It is the safest environment on the island to practice water starts and stabilize the flight without the physical exhaustion that waves entail.

Best time: Although Tenerife provides wind 365 days a year, the high season for trade winds is from May to September and from November to April. During these months you will find the strongest and most constant conditions.

What wetsuit to bring: In summer, a 2 mm shorty is more than enough. If you travel between November and April, a 3/2 mm or 4/3 mm wetsuit will be your best ally.

What wingfoil gear to bring to Tenerife? (Sizes and Volumes)
Getting the equipment right is essential so you don't end up watching from the sand. The conditions in Tenerife, especially in the south (El Médano), are usually medium to strong winds, so the ideal quiver varies slightly compared to areas with lighter winds.
1. Wing size The Tenerife trade wind usually blows hard, averaging between 15 and 25 knots.

The all-around wing (One-wing quiver): If you can only check one wing on your flight, a 4.5m or 5.0m will be your best bet to cover most days.

For strong days (Summer): It is highly recommended to pack a 3.0m or 4.0m wing. In the months of July and August, the wind can easily exceed 30 knots.

For winter or heavy riders: A 5.0m or 6.0m will save your winter sessions where the wind is more marginal and soft.
2. Board volume The sea in El Médano and nearby areas is usually quite choppy, which makes the initial balance a bit difficult when kneeling in the water.

Beginners / Intermediates: We recommend a board that has your weight in kg + 20 or 30 liters. It will give you the necessary stability to stand up in the chop without sinking.

Advanced: If you already master the sunk or semi-sunk waterstart, a board around your weight or between 10 and 15 liters below will be perfect to surf the waves of El Cabezo or La Jaquita with total agility.
